Let’s play: Creative ideas for indoor family fun

Indoor play doesn’t have to be restricted, in fact it can be pretty fantastic with a bit of imagination.  While we all adjust to the new ‘Normal’, to make things a little easier and a whole heap more fun, we’ve pulled together a list of the best indoor activities for children that will keep them busy while encouraging communication, bonding and creativity.

Get Crafty

Never underestimate the power of markers, crayons, or paints to keep a child busy for long stretches of time. Even if your child isn’t super artistic, providing them with a selection of fresh new art supplies can spark creativity. Teach older children about famous artists and their various techniques by looking through fine art books or online galleries, and then have them create their own masterpieces.

 bedroom makeover

Whether it’s adorable new bedding, or a move to a more grown-up bed, they’ll love getting involved in a fresh look for their room. Let them choose colours and themes, and take the time to go through unwanted clothes and toys together and make a donation to children who need them. Our bedding collections are perfect for tots through to teens and come in cot-bed through to double!

Games and puzzles

Most homes will have a board game or maybe even a jigsaw puzzle hiding in a top cupboard, so now is a good time to grab it, wipe off the dust and indulge in some old-fashioned family bonding.

Head to the kitchen

Whether it’s to make a meal or bake a cake, cooking is not only a good activity for long days spent at home, but it’s also a fun way to introduce some maths and science into the day.

Get them their very own baking set, and stock up on ingredients (if you can) for their favourite recipes so that they can do some kitchen experimenting and whip up some delicious creations.

Indoor camping

Set up an indoor tent or den with sheets, cushions and super-soft throws – and don’t forget some fairy lights for that magical touch. Our bedding and extra large muslin swaddles make the perfect indoor tent! Get everyone into their pyjamas and settle down for films, games, or half-term treats.

Cardboard box pretend play

The humble cardboard box is so useful and is a great starting point for creative and imaginative play.  Your little one can decide how to change the box into something truly amazing for pretend play-from castles to shops and rockets to cars, imagination is all that’s needed here for hours of fun.

Whatever you decide to get up to, be sure to embrace this precious time together.
